Academic Learning Compacts

What is an Academic Learning Compact?

The Florida Board of Governors has mandated that the public universities in Florida develop an Academic Learning Compact for each baccalaureate degree program that they offer. The Compacts identify the expected core student learning outcomes for degree program graduates in the areas of communication skills, content/discipline knowledge and skills, and critical thinking skills. Students should acquire these skills if they follow the prescribed course of study in their declared major. Students may be expected to participate in a number of activities associated with the Compacts such as answering embedded questions in scheduled exams, creating a portfolio, enrolling in a capstone course, or sitting for a specialized exam. Therefore a student might see a section on any given syllabus that states "learning outcomes" or "learning objectives". When this language appears, it is referring to the Academic Learning Compacts described above. Below is a list of all Bachelors degrees per major, and a link to that department's Learning Compacts for your information.'
