The mission of the College of Arts & Sciences Research Office (CASRO) is to meet the administrative needs of the College's research community, including helping to identify, obtain, and administer external research funds. CASRO also coordinates and evaluates CAS Core Facilities and Recharge Centers.

Research and scholarship in CAS encompasses a wide-range of intellectual pursuits – from Astronomy to Biology & Marine Science, English to Environment, Philosophy to Physics --as well as languages, life sciences, politics and international affairs, psychology, history, religion, and mathematics.

The research endeavors of CAS faculty cover departmental and interdisciplinary programs, individual projects, scholarly publications, and events.  In 2007-2008, the total dollar amount of external grant funding achieved by CAS faculty was $27M, making it a leader in grant productivity among colleges at FIU.

The integration of research and graduate education is central to the mission of the College of Arts & Sciences and is evident across the centers and institutes that are affiliated with CAS, as well as across the significant activities in our spotlight.

To assist CAS researchers, this office oversees the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program and coordinates with the Office of Sponsored Research Administration, and the various graduate programs. CAS also administers the Office of Entrepreneurial Science concerning the development of commercially viable ideas.
